DOHERTY – Peter A., 55, of Clifton on June 10, 2009.Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, Mr. Doherty had lived in Clifton for thirty-two years. He was a trainer of standardbred race horses in New Jersey and New England. Mr. Doherty was a 1972 graduate of Saint Malachy's Memorial High School in Saint John, New Brunswick and attended Saint Mary's University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was a member of the U.S. Trotting Association (U.S.T.A.) as well as the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association (S.B.O.A.).Mr. Doherty was predeceased by his parents, J. Frank Doherty and Mary (nee Clancy) Doherty.Survivors include: his son, Andrew Francis Doherty, of Halifax, Massachusetts; his brothers: James Doherty (Marianne) of Clifton, William Doherty (Rita) of Ottawa, Ontario and Paul Doherty (Roxanne) of Ringwood; his sisters: Mary Murphy (William), Martina Shannon (Donald), Patricia Loughery (Merrill), Anne Gilbride (Paul) and Evelyn Doherty, all of Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and his former wife, Maureen (nee Feeley) Doherty, of Halifax, Massachusetts.Funeral services will be Saturday 10:15 am from the Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Andrew the Apostle RC Church, 400 Mt. Prospect Avenue, Clifton. Private cremation to follow. Visiting Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Memorial contributions to either the American Cancer Society, 20 Mercer Street, Hackensack, New Jersey 07601 or to the Standardbred Retirement Foundation, 108F Old York Road, Hamilton, New Jersey 08620 would be appreciated.

So sorry to hear of Peter's passing. He was always very kind to me and the boys (Jim and Mike) and I enjoyed his sense of humor over the years. He was a good man and I will miss seeing him on future trips back east. My condolences to his close and loving family. My heart goes out to all of you. Pete was a good friend and we worked together in the same barn, many years ago. Lots of parties and good times to remember. He will be sadly missed.
