Peter Gomatos, soldier, paratrooper, special agent, businessman, citizen of 3 nations, husband and father died Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at the age of 74 in Danvers of a brief illness. Mr. Gomatos was born in (Loganikos) SPARTA, Greece on March 30, 1937. At age 17 intrigued by the Vietnam War he set off to France to enlist with the French Foreign Legion. He was with the 1st Regiment Etranger De Parachutistes, stationed in Algeria. While there he also served for the Second Bureau of the Republique Francaise, and Le Ministre de la defense nationale et de forces Armees. After his tenure with the military and fluent in five languages he was recruited under President DeGaulle to work for the government of France. While vacationing in the US he met his wife and married on March 9, 1966 and resided in Lynn, MA. Mr. Gomatos throughout his travels to all of the major continents of the world had an amazing passion for cooking. He worked at the various elite hotels in Boston and other restaurants on the north shore before opening his own restaurant "BROTHER'S DELI & RESTAURANT" located on 446 Rantoul Street, RTE 1A, Beverly. Mr. Gomatos and his wife Maria operated the restaurant for 28 years prior to selling to the CVS Plaza. Mr. Gomatos and his wife had planned to move to Europe this month. Throughout his residency in the United States he generously donated to feed the hungry in Africa. Mr. Gomatos, two days prior to his death stoically communicated to his twin children that "Life is a journey and not a destination," and that he "is going to the great mountains of SPARTA, that he had so much missed as a child." Mr. Gomatos leaves, his wife, Maria; daughter, Stacy; son, George; two grandchildren Richard and Myles; sister, Vaso Dalamagas; brother, John Gomatos and family; cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. His funeral will be held on Friday at 10AM in St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Lynn. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery, Middleton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Thursday from 4-9PM in the SOLIMINE, LANDERGAN AND RICHARDSON FUNERAL HOME.
