WESTWOOD: Peter M. Hanney, 74, passed peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 following a brief illness.  


He is survived by his siblings, John Hanney & wife Karen of Lunenburg; David Hanney & wife Anne of White Plains, NY; and Marilyn Dumas of Clinton; generations of nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.  He is pre-deceased by his long-term companion Shirley Campbell; siblings, Carol (Hanney) and husband Warren Nelson, Eileen (Hanney) and husband John Goldick, Eleanor (Hanney) and husband Leon Joseph, and Sharon Fulkerson; and brother-in-law David Dumas.


Peter was born in Clinton, son of the late Maurice & Ruth (Grady) Hanney.  A student athlete, he was a member of the Clinton High School track and football teams and graduated as a member of the Class of 1968. Pete continued studies at Worcester Junior College and achieved his professional degree in Mechanical Engineering.  A proud patriot, he enlisted and served our nation in the US Army National Guard. Peter spent his professional career as a Press Operator for National Perforating in Clinton for many years, as well as various machinist positions in the greater Boston area.  He was an avid sports fan who cheered faithfully for the Red Sox and Patriots.  Above all, he was a devoted family man, loving brother, uncle, and friend.  


A calling hour will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 from 10 until 11AM with a Funeral Service at 11AM in the McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304 Church St., Clinton, and burial to follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Lancaster.  Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Peter M. Peter was a great friend to my parents for all of his years on Coachlace. My condolences to his family.

Sorry to hear about Peter. He & the rest of the Hanney family will always be in my memories.

May you Rest in Peace, Pete. My prayers go out for Peter and the extended Hanney family. Saying goodbye is hard, but may memories of Pete live on in your hearts. I will remember him as a kind and caring person.
