PETER JOHNSON

Pete and I enrolled at Earlham College in the fall of 1967. We became good friends from the start due primarily to our activist nature. We founded BLACC together, with an eye towards improving the lives of minority students and perhaps making a difference in the community at large. I knew early on that Pete was destined for great things. We both had our own road map, my life-model was different from his so our paths separated. Peter was a trusted colleague, friend, and mentor. He expertly combined his authenticity, sense of humor and experience to provide sage and always kind advice and guidance. When Peter offered you advice, you always took it trusting in its purpose and value. I can't imagine Columbia and our profession without this gentlemen. He left an indelible legacy and will be greatly missed.

I am so sad to hear this news. When I was a sophomore ar CC many years ago I almost had to leave, because the school cut my financial aid dramatically. Peter was so supportive, and ultimately helped me work with financial aid, so that I could continue my studies. I remember his charm and kindness vividly. This truly breaks my heart. Sending his family so much love in this sad time.

Peter was such a vital asset to the Athletics Department and the University as a whole. He is a gentleman that will be greatly missed.

Our entire program would like to offer our deepest condolences. Peter was a tremendous friend, a trusted adviser and avid supporter to virtually everyone in the Columbia University Athletic Department. His wisdom, insight and prospective will sorely be missed.
