I worked for then Colonel Kempf at Luke AFB, Az in the late 1970's. I was a second Lt. I respected him and I always knew that his first priority was the mission of the USAF. He was a serious, no nonsense, hard charging professional officer who took on the most difficult jobs that the Air Force had. I would have followed him anywhere. His leadership style was straight ahead full speed get it done and I appreciated him for that. He treated me very well and always took time to get my...

"We toast our hearty comrades who have fallen from the skies, and were caught by God's own hand to be with him on high, to dwell among the soaring clouds they have known so well before, from victory roll to tail chase at heaven's very door.
And as we fly among them there, we are sure to heart their plea:
Take care my friend, watch your six and do one more roll for me."
