Dr. Peter Michael Mitchell

I met Dr. Pete Mitchell in 1979 at Ball State University. Pete was the chair of my dissertation, clinical supervisor, and a lifelong mentor. I also had the opportunity to be Pete's graduate assistant when he was the director of the doctoral program. I called him many years later to say "Pete, I have become you now, as the director of the doctoral program in my university", he laughed, and said "If people get angry at you it is because you are doing the right thing". What he said was so true...

I met Pete when he worked in the counseling center at Ball State, and I joined the faculty in the counseling psych department. He was very kind and welcoming to me all those years ago. It appears that he led an amazing life. My condolences to his family on behalf of the BSU counseling psychology academic department.

We have lost a truly good person. Dr Mitchell cared about people and his community. He was a founding Board Member of Aquarius House in Muncie and his efforts touched many lives. His wisdom and counsel were so impactful it is hard to imagine where some of us would have would up had we not crossed paths with the "Doc". Thank you for being there, and thank you to the family for sharing this wonderful man with us.
