Missing you every day. It has been three years and is really not any easier. I love you dad.

Our daughter (now a faculty member at Iowa) forwarded the news to us about Dr. Nathan. We were saddened to learn that he had passed. He was the first provost that we ever got to know, very accessible and supportive of the things that really mattered for Iowa and for higher education more broadly. He dedicated himself to important cultural changes at Iowa, and we have carried his inspiration with us in the years since we left the university.

It was a great shock followed by deep sadness to learn that my friend, colleague and mentor Peter Nathan had died. It is hard to imagine someone so vital to suddenly be an absent member of his large "family" of friends and relatives - although he will be ever present in the memories each of us has of this extraordinarily wonderful person.
