Family-Placed Obituary OAKES, Peter M. Those who met him could never forget. That short, balding chap from Britain. That deep resonant baritone, that charming accent, and that eloquent phrase he would turn "just so." Peter Maurice Oakes died peacefully at home early Saturday morning at the...

Not sure what to say?

Dear Miep,
What a wonderful man he was! I'll always remember when the boys were small and we came down to spend Christmas at your house, and all the ways that Peter made everything special. He would get into deep conversations with them from the time they were old enough to talk, taking them seriously, respecting their views, enjoying play as they did. He was a man of many parts, so creative, whimsical, intellilgent, and he never lost that sparkle of interest in all things new. ...

Dear Maria and Family,
I met Peter at the Palm Beach Model Railroaders train club back in 1988. I have always learned from him and valued his advice. There was something special about that group of modelers back in the late 80's and early 90's that will never be forgotten or repeated. Peter was an integral part of that group. He will be sorely missed and never forgotten.

The Regimental Association of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers and Greys)has lost a mate! But Peter has simply been posted to join all of our "Absent Friends" from years gone by, so he is in good company!

One of the greatest honors of my life has been to have counted among my closest and most beloved relatives Peter Oakes, that exemplar of the true British Gentleman. The world is a poorer place for your passing, Peter, but oh, so much richer for having had you in it. Godspeed, old friend.

Peter brought humor to a world in much need of it. I believe "character" was probably his middle name. We rejoice in his life and sorrow in his loss.

Dear Maria and Family,

News of Peter's passing is sad news indeed. He is spoken of frequently at the PB Model RR Club
with great affection and respect. Please accept our sympathy.

Maria,
You have been in my thoughts and prayers. I was so sorry to hear of your loss. Now you must concentrate on all the good and happy memories. God bless you and your family.
