Dee, we just found out yesterday, from Claude, and were shocked and saddened by the news of Peter's passing. We wanted to send our condolences to you and your family.

We at the New Orleans Associated Press knew we could count on Piazza for coverage in Cajun country -- breaking news, sports, features, mug shots, file pictures, whatever we needed.... He was always enthusiastic about our requests, even when they were ridiculous and personal, like the time alligator hunting had resumed and I asked if he could get me some. Next time I was in Lafayette, he escorted me to his house where he dragged out a garbage bag full of frozen gator cheeks and tails he had...

Peter was a kindred soul to all of us and it showed in his beautiful photography, his smile and his love for mankind. The news of his passing hurts my soul. Rest in peace, my friend. All strength and comfort to your loving family.

A very honest and humble man will be missed. No more struggles my good friend. You deserve that place in heaven, so please watch over all of us!

Oh , my heart hurts to know I won´t see Peter again with his camera out in the streets of Lafayette. I first met Peter when he worked on stories about the Acadiana Park Nature Station and wildflowers in the 80s. He was always so thoughtful and friendly. What a wonderful citizen of The world and what a contribution he made to Lafayette and to me as a friend over the years. My heart goes out to you Dee and your family he always talked about with such love and admiration. Peace
