Not sure what to say?

I had the pleasure of meeting Legislator
Schmitt years ago as a young insecure intern. The first time i shook his hand i felt like the cowardly lion standing before the "Great Oz"! studdering and stammering along the way. My admiration goes deeper than the awesome politician he was,I found him to be an extremely warm, engaging, approachable regular guy. Out of respect I always addressed him as Legislator Schmitt, he always graciously said "Please call me Peter". Sounds so cliche, however...

You were ALWAYS a strong supporter of the Masssapequa Association of Girl Scouts and the Gold Girls. Attending our Annual Award Ceremonies and truly interested in the Gold Girls Projects. Thank you for ALWAYS assisting, supporting and engaging with the girls without question to your busy schedule.

You were a great friend and drinking buddy for so many years. I'll meet you for another drink in heaven.

Rest in Peace, dear Peter. So many memories as we grew up in the crazy and huge Schmitt family of cousins upon cousins and more cousins. Good times and memories in Queens Village and at the Lake House in Ronkonkoma, Prayers and angels sent to comfort your family from one of those many cousins.

Thank you for your service to the Massapequa's for so many years. We will all be forever grateful.
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Peter, you were always the champion of safe boating and clean waterways, and always supported our Jones Beach Power Squadron! Many thanks and God Bless! You will be missed!

We will miss you greatly. You were a great friend and a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He spoke the truth and you knew what side of the fence he was on. It's a sad day for Nassau County, he will be missed.

Mr. Schmitt

Was a one of a kind. He did many great things for Nassau County, he worked for the people, and a sense of humor he brought to the job
