Not sure what to say?

Wish you were coming to my discussion of Chinese history to needle me.

Dear Cynthia:

My sincere condolences to you and your family. I am so saddened to hear of Peter's passing. I served with Peter in the Area and International Studies Program at UVM for many years and came to appreciate his warmth as a person and deep knowledge of his field as a scholar.

I am shocked and saddened to learn of Peter's death. I considered him a good friend thanks to our long years together at Harvard.

Cythia,Taylor and Susan, John and Amy I am saddened by the passing of Peter. I took a Japanese history class at UVM and he hooked me! He was such a dynamic and interesting professor that I ended up taking 3 more Asian studies classes due to him! I just lost my dad in May at age 77 as well and know a part of what you are going through. A great inspiration to us all!!

Dear Cynthia,
Susan Weber told me of Peter's passing. It was an honor to know Peter, even for a very brief time in Cuba. You two clearly had a very special bond and I know he will be greatly missed. You are in my thoughts.

Taylor, I'm sorry to hear of the passing of your Dad. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

David and Suzanne Pilcher send their condolences. We are saddened by your loss.

In 1964, when I came to Harvard from India as a doctoral student, Peter and Cynthia were among the very first to open their home to my wife,Meena, and me. They not only extended their generous hospitality to us but made us a part of their family. After receiving our doctorates Peter and I began our teaching careers in academic institutions located far from each other: in Vermont and Connecticut. However, neither time nor distance weakened our ‘familial” ties. Today, we join Cynthia, Taylor,...

Dear Cynthia,

Our deepest sympathies to you and all of your family. Having the opportunity to spend time with Peter ( and you) was one of the high points of our trips to Honduras. He was such a postive, warm. intelligent and generous person. Our memories of the amazing Chinese banquets that Peter organized at Mr. Wu's restuarant for the Hands to Honduras volunteers in Tela will always stay with us.

Our thoughts are with you!
