Not sure what to say?

To my husband, my lover, the father of our beautiful sons and my very best friend.....My heart aches...it is broken...I miss you Pete. One year ago today we were vacationing in South Carolina. One year ago today, you were ALIVE. I was by your side.Little did I know this was our second honeymoon. Now I know....but it escaped me then. That vacation was glorious....so romantic...so, so perfect. Little did I know that this time last year my days with you were numbered. Little did I know you...

To Pete's family,
I called Peter a few times from Canada to talk about the Crawford case. I was shocked that he answered his phone and gave me what I needed. My husband and I are working on a series about the wrongly convicted with Rubin 'Hurricane' Carter. I was so shocked and totally impressed with how someone could be such a human, caring journalist. We need Peter Shellem's memory to shine in the world and foster more journalists like him.

Dear Joyce, Philip, and Alek

We all loved Pete for the wonderful husband, father, brother-in-law, and friend he was. Everything he did was with a passion. He is missed and forever in our hearts. We are all here for you and the boys anytime day or night. God Bless You! Rest in peace Pete, you are so missed.
Love, Susan

I was so honored to be a friend of Pete's. He was smart, funny, dedicated and a true gentleman. He will be missed. He may be gone, but he truly made a difference in this world. My condolences to Joyce, Philip and Alex. He was a great man.

Many times we say, so-and-so will be missed, but in Pete Shellem's case, some innocent prisoner on death row or life without parole may be the one who does the missing -- right behind his wife, sons and other intimate family members whom he loved. -- (G. Buddy, Enola).

Dear Joyce,
Your husband was a real hero to me. I have always read his articles and been in awe of the work he has done on behalf of innocent people. He was a gift to the profession, and his spirit of generosity, justice, and a search for the truth will live on forever. I keep an article he wrote in my office, and point it out to the high school students I work with. I can only imagine the pain you must feel at your loss, and my thoughts and prayers are with you. The only comfort I have...

While I wasn't lucky enough to have known Pete as long as some of his very fortunate colleagues at the P/N, I consider myself lucky to have known him...and his amazing work as a journalist. He truly made a difference in the lives of so many...and it's a legacy that will live on. His presence will live on in all the lives that he touched...and will never go away.
My family's thoughts and prayers are with your family.
