Not sure what to say?

I lived next to Mr. Smiley for several years. His son Pete (Poe) and I were friends. I remember his Model A driving around with a completely shell less coupe. I remember the gas tank was a Foldgers Coffee can. He was the nicest guy and was always kind to me and my family. He had a great family and I recall fond memories of playing catch with him, Poe and Jock (golden retriever). RIP Mr. Smiley.

I misstated Pete's Profession. I knew him as the Otis Elevator guy. We visited countless times in the commercial Real Estate facility. Please accept my apologies.

I met Pete during his commercial real estate years. I worked for a contractor and he and I became friends. We later lost touch. Today, I thought of Pete and typed his name into my machine and learned of his passing. To his family and friends, I am sorry and will miss him for a long time.

A first class guy. Peter and I met each other when our sons were in Indian Guides, likely about 1979 or 80. Since I worked as a consulting mechanical engineer, we had in common the design and outfitting of new buildings in design and construction. I enjoyed our acquaintance and each time we ran into each other we always had a warm and friendly conversation. A professional. A dedicated father. I note his passing with appreciation for who he was as a human being.

Remembering good times together when our kids were growing up together.
Our hearts go out to you and your family.

Pete was brought up almost daily in conversation at our house. Pete and my dad, Cliff Leese worked together at Otis for many years. All the best to the family.

Our family moved next to Pete's in 1958. We were a far more constrained bunch, and he took it upon himself to introduce us to the joys and rigors of the mid-century teen culture indelibly memorialized in the George Lucas 1973 film classic, American Graffiti. Pete was reputed to be the local tough guy, equivalent to John Milner (played by Paul LeMat), the Model B deuce coupe drag-racing centerpiece of Lucas' evocation of early sixties Modesto, California high school hierarchy and customs. I...

My best wishes to the extended Smiley family during your time of grief. Pete was a great friend and will be missed. Glad he continued his lifelong passion with Model As. Every time I see one, I think of him.
