Peter Michael Smiley, a loving father, husband, and a sensitive friend with a dry sense of humor, offered kindness and respect to every life he touched. An avid fan of the band Widespread Panic and the Washington Commanders, Peter loved to run marathons, play golf, listen to music, watch sports,...

My heart is broken having just learned of Peter´s passing-a beautiful soul taken far too soon. I want to extend my deepest condolences to Peter´s family and loved ones. I met Pete shortly after moving to Portland when he was a concierge at The Heathman. We both worked in hospitality, (across the street), were trail runners, and lived a few blocks from one another. Pete was the King of Service and it was impossible not to be feel special when in his presence. I will always cherish that...

I worked with Peter for several years and our sons are similar ages. This is heartbreaking. If Henry and Quinn see this one day- your dad loved you like you wouldn´t believe. He was the best dad and was so incredibly proud of being your father. He made a lot of peoples lives better and we were all lucky to know him.

Pete was one of the first people I met when I moved to Portland. Many years since, he has been deeply planted in my heart. He and I would joke and say we were brother and sister. He made me feel as if it were true. I loved his welcoming smile. He´d look right into my eyes and listen to every word spoken. Hospitality was his chosen field of work. It came naturally to him. He was fun, funny, gracious, generous, and kind. I hope Quinn and Henry will see Peter´s smiles on their faces, and...

To Cathy, Anne and Dave, You and Pete´s boys have been in my thoughts since I heard of Pete´s passing. I didn´t know Pete personally but it was heart warming to read the messages some of his life long friends wrote to him and all of you. May you comfort each other in the years ahead by sharing your memories of him often. Sending love and compassion. Jennifer and Dino

I met Pete around the 3rd grade at Hiteon Elementary and we became instant friends. As a result, I spent a significant amount of my childhood at Pete´s house on Rawhide Court between 3rd-9th grade. His house had an upstairs bonus room with Atari. I had neither. I have so many memories. Mini-baseball and tackle football at Hiteon almost every day year-round. And we continued to play tackle football even after Pete broke his collar bone. Blowing up stuff with real M-80´s. Jock the...

One of the Coolest Cats I ever met. Whether we were 13, 26, or 46, Pete was cool. Like Miles Davis or Deion Sanders Cool. He used that gift to make others feel cool. He became an Ambassador for the City of Portland, when it was at its best. Made his guests and Clients feel special for their Dinner, Weekend in Town, the big game, etc. He made us all feel special. I´ll miss my friend but will remember him fondly. Some of his phrases and actions are still commonly discussed often. Rest in Peace...

It's been a minute Pete but I will always remember your smile and wit. Our Syracuse and Georgetown battles from middle school continued in my head for decades. You are a gem that will truly be missed. Until we meet again. Love you! Baseden
