Not sure what to say?

He was my bus driver in grade school. One of the nicest people and very funny. Never a cross word for any of the kids, but lots of laughs. He used to pretend to brush his teeth with a snow brush. :-)

Sorry for your loss. Very fond memories of "Mr. Sparkplug".

Marie, Polly, and Pete, our most sincere condolences to you and family. We are sad to having not seen Pete for a bit. The Sparhawk clan were a large part of my growing up on Porter's Point, sailing Sunfish, the Atlantic, and working on boats Summers for Pete. I will never forget what I learned from Pete. We believe he now has smooth sailing!!!

I rowed for Pete from '76-'81. He was a great coach, leader and an inspiration. He will be missed!

I rowed for Pete at Princeton from '67 till graduation in '70. Rowing was a big part of my college life and Pete was a big part of my rowing experience. The discipline and work ethic he nourished have lasted my entire life. I thank God for his life. He was a blessing to me and many others. (BTW I still row in Masters events. Still remember his coaching tips.)

Although I never had the chance to meet Pete, my respect for him is of the highest level. He helped forge a tradition in rowing at Washington-Lee High School that many of us have since enjoyed. He set an example to emulate as an athlete and person. For that, the members of W-L Crew, past and present, are eternally grateful. Best wishes to family and friends. Say hi to Charlie for us Pete, god speed.

I tried ti call Pete a few weeks ago, just after I finished reading "The Boys in the Boat." HE, Dick McCombs and Charlie get the credit for launching the W-L rowing dynasty.

Dear Maria and the rest of the Sparhawk family,
Please accept my deepest condolences. I came to Princeton a few years after Pete left and so did not row for him, but several of my teammates did, and so I know the legacy he created and the foundation for success that he laid. Pete also crafted the plaque for our alumni rowing club (the "Fat Cats") which now hangs on the Princeton boathouse wall. He will always be a part of that boathouse, spiritually and physically. May he rest in peace...

I am so sorry to hear that Peter has left this world. As one of his neighbors I found Peter to be always kind and thoughtful with a wonderfully positive outlook on life. My thoughts and prayers to his loving family and friends.

I loved him beyond measure. He married my sister when I was 11 years old...my sister, Joyce. They gave me a niece and a nephew, Pete Jr and Polly, and their families. I know that Marie and her family gave him love and peace in those many years after. I am so greatful!
