Peter Steele, the frontman for the heavy metal band Type O Negative, has died. The band's spokesperson confirmed that Steele died Wednesday at age 48. Though the official cause of death has yet to be determined pending autopsy results, the cause of death appears to be heart failure. Type O Negative put out their first album, Slow, Deep and Hard, in 1991. Subsequent releases included 1994’s Bloody Kisses—which cracked the Billboard Top 100—and the 2000 compilation, The Least Worst of Type O Negative. In addition to fronting Type O Negative, Steele also performed in the group Carnivore, posed for Playgirl magazine and even appeared on the Jerry Springer Show.
