Not sure what to say?

While checking my home state of Montana's obituaries on-line I learned of 'Ensign Story's passing. My memories are of two, fresh-faced rookie sailors, newly assigned in 1955 to the WWII-era Fletcher-class destroyer, USS ISHERWOOD DD520, in San Diego. Pete (Ensign Story, that is!!) was my communications officer, and I, a radioman striker. We sailed together on patrol in the Formosa (Taiwan) Straits among WestPac venues. I was 18, he was 22. Boys who grew into men as we served our country. ...

To the Story family, I was saddened to hear of Pete's passing. I always enjoyed chatting with him whenever we met. Quite a fellow and a fine contributor to his community.

Dear Eileen and family

My mom called to relay the news and I wanted to express our sympathy to you and the family. I am so glad that my children and I got to meet both of you when we visited several years ago. Your hospitality and Pete's storytelling were a highight of our trip.

To Eileen and family,

My thoughts and prayers are with you, with Pete's passing. I remember fondly all the fun times our families had when I was growing up.

Hello Jack and Rick. Sorry for your loss. Your mother was always gracious and kind to me. She made me feel welcome in her home.

I am so sorry to hear that Pete is gone. He was a friend, and I will remember him running around our store with a willow basket on his head, among other things. I'm glad he, Eileen, and I were friends.

My mother, Nora, and I would like to extend our sympathies to Eileen and family. We remember Peter fondly, and we were so sorry to learn of his passing. He left a wonderful legacy.
