Peter Stultz Obituary

Peter E. Stultz, Sr, 71
PORTLAND -- Peter E. Stultz, Sr., 71, of Portland, passed away on May 23, 2014, after a long illness.
Peter was born in Yarmouth on Jan. 6, 1943, the son of Howard F, Stultz, Jr. and Effie P. Sleeper. He attended King Jr. Middle School, until his family moved to St. Petersburg, Fla., where he attended Dixie Hollison High School. On Jan. 22, 1960, Peter enlisted in the Navy, serving nine years until he was honorably discharged on August 8, 1969. He worked for 35 years for various potato chip companies, four years for Anthem, and retired from T.D. Bank after six years of work.
He was married on May 17, 1974, to his loving wife, Patricia.
He loved to bowl. He began bowling at the age of 12 and continued until he became ill in 1994. Peter was a five time city champion, and a singles state champion. He bowled on various leagues and in 1986 his name was entered into the bowler's hall of fame.
Peter was known for his sense of humor, which continued even to the very end. He enjoyed spending time with the Lift Group of Portland, and playing cards with his neighbor, and good friend, Joe Gilbert. Most of all, he looked forward to spending his summers on Peaks Island.
Peter is predeceased by his wife, Patricia, and twin sisters, Jean Wright, and Peggy Vincent. He is survived by his four daughters, Wendy (Lewis) Harmon, and her husband James, of Portland, Heidi (Lewis) McTigue, and her husband Robert, of Falmouth, Melanie (Lewis) Fogarty, of Portland, and Patty (Stultz) Stevens and her husband Lee of New Hampshire, a son Peter E. Stultz, Jr., and his wife Judi of Tennessee; his sister Priscilla Ford, of Virginia; and several grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces, nephews; and cousins.
Peter's family wishes to thank the staff of Seaside Nursing Home for their compassion for Peter and his family in his last days, with a special thank you to Karen and Keith.
Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland. Peter was a great man to work with and we sure had fun together at TD Bank. He told us many a bowling story and we enjoyed them very much. Orman Cleaves

Well Dad here we are at "goodbye" one final time. My wish is that I could of known you more, but it is what it is. As I was reading your obituary I was amazed at how much we are alike. You served in the Navy for 9 years and I served in the Air Force for 9 years. You loved to bowl, was a leftie and began at age 12. Well me too. In fact I just finished a league a couple weeks ago averaging a 206. You enjoyed playing cards as much as I do. At the age of 23 you had me and Patty 15 months apart. At age 23 I had Janessa and James 15 months apart. Finally, we both have the same name. I am so glad we were able to speak on the phone one last time the night before you passed on. I wish I could be there this week, but since I can't I will be there in spirit. Rest in peace Dad. God knows how much I have loved you through the years.

We extend our sympathy to the Stultz family and hope during the ensuing days those funny moments and happy times shared with Peter help ease your grief. For us, remembering Pete's joy in simple pleasures such as: weekends spent on the Island with Pat, the kids and grandkids, motor scooting around the Island; camping trips; listening to the 50's radio show while playing games of "rumski" and cribbage, telling crazy jokes and funny stories while testing Margarita's "better than Applebees," and most especially, Pete's love and pride of his family are some of the memories we will treasure. God Bless.
