BAKES, PHIL, "There is no greater love than to give your life for a friend. " In typical Phil Bakes fashion, he put a twist on this biblical quote and rewrote it. There is no greater love than to live your life for a friend. That sums up who Phil was, how he lived his life and what he instilled...

Not sure what to say?

I think of Phil often and tell stories about him regularly. Gig says she will do a Phil Bakes in certain challenging situations. We all miss him. Scott

I knew Phil at the Watergate Prosecution Force, 1973 - 1975. And, like everyone said, he was handsome, smart and full of energy.

I was fortunate to have Phil as my mentor during Business School (2009-2011)at NSU as a member of the Strategic Forum Student Group. One of the reasons I did my business studies at NSU was because of The Strategic Forum and Phil. He always gave me the opportunity to speak at his YPO/WPO Economic, Health Care, and Environmental Summits, made countless introductions for me and pushed me to be on my "A" game. I always respected his brash, call it like it is style. He was never too busy for a...

Our deepest condolences to the Bakes family. Phil was a rock star in every role he inhabited. Over several decades and thousands of miles we remained lifelong buddies. Phil's jubilance never failed to rally my bleakest spirits. His wry wit still cracks a smile on my face. I remain forever awed by his endless zest for life and talent for bringing a refreshing levity to most any situation. But mostly I (Judy) was honored to be his friend. It is our hope and prayer for your family that peace...

Phil will always be remembered as a great mentor and example of what it means to be Human. He is greatly missed in the lives of so many. Many blessings and love are prayed for his family during this time of loss. Until we meet again Phil!

I probably knew Phil for over 25 years as a member -- a valued member -- of the Northwestern University Transportation Center Business Advisory Council (BAC). He was a great friend of the Center and his fellow members, students and professors. Made many meaningful contributions repeatedly over the years. In the last decade we always seem to run into each other on planes -- to/from Miami, to/from Europe. Always a joy to see -- will never forget that ready smile. One of the good guys. Will be...

Phil was one of a kind,in every way . When I think of him I smile. Rest in peace. Love Scott and Gig Lang and family.

So sorry for your loss, we all are looking forward to the day that John 5:28 comes true for all the ones we love and lost. -

Our thoughts and prayers are with you - Phil most definitely loved his family. I traded stories with Phil many an early morning at the gym-- all of them about the joy he felt in raising his children and seeing them come into their own. I will miss the genuine friendship that started many years ago at St. Thomas Episcopal Parish School. As St. John Chrysostom said --They whom we love and lose are no longer where they were before. They are now wherever we are.
