Phil Edens, age 76 of Elwood, Indiana died October 1, 2004 at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood after a brief illness. He was born May 25, 1928 in Jonesville, Virginia.

He worked at Wickes Lumber Company in Elwood in the sales department, and retired in 1989 after 32 years of service. He was a 1946 graduate of Jonesville High School in Jonesville, Virginia and was affiliated with the Central Wesleyan Church in Elwood. He was an avid enthusiast of bluegrass music.

Survivors include - Mother: Myrtle (Cheek) Edens of Ben Hur, VA. Wife whom he married December 23, 1949: Ina (Matlock) Edens of Elwood. Daughter: Kim McShane of Elwood. Son: Pastor Roger L. and wife Shelly Edens of Elwood. 3 Sisters: Frances Thomas of Jonesboro, Evada Foor of Jonesboro, and Lena Edens of Ben Hur, VA. Brother: Alfred Edens of Kingsport, TN. 2 Grandson’s: Lynn and wife Nicole Edens of Elwood, and Sean McShane of Elwood. Great-Grandson: Roger Lynn “Baby Trey” Edens III, and also surviving are many special friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Millard Edens.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday, October 4, 2004 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Matt Miller of the Central Wesleyan Church in Elwood officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Elwood. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 to 8 PM Sunday, October 3, 2004 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.

Ina and I worked together at French's in Elwood, in 1968. I have always had the greatest respect for Ina and Phil. And although I was gone for 12 years, I thought of Ina often because she was one of the sweetest and kindest ladies I have ever worked with.
