Dr. Mathis was a lovely man. I had been his patient in Tupelo. I had to go to the ER and he was the surgeon on call. I was admitted to the hospital and he waited in the room with me for my parents to arrive and be with me. That took a little while, but he sat with me and visited until they got there. We talked about family and music. He was a great surgeon and a very kind man. Not many physicians are so good to their patients. It was an honor to know him. My prayers are with his family...
