Philip Latham Beaurline

Philip Latham Beaurline, 59, of Ivy, Virginia, died on Friday, January 18, 2013, just before midnight at the University of Virginia Medical Center from complications of the flu. Philip was born in Davenport, Iowa, on April 7, 1953, and moved to Charlottesville, at age 7, where he formed close friendships that would last the rest of his life. He attended Venable, Walker, and Albemarle High Schools, as well as Grinnell College. He had many adventures and occupations, taking him to every state in the union. He was a carpenter, cowboy, blacksmith, miner, and bricklayer before starting his 25-year career as an architectural photographer. Philip photographed many of the most beautiful and historic homes in Virginia and throughout the country. He also had several shows of his decades-long project of photographing 16th century churches and monasteries in rural Mexico. Many of his photographs can be seen on his website at www.beaurline.com. He loved his family, traveling, music, cooking, fine wine, building, gardening, and the natural world. Philip was a brother to a wide circle of friends who will miss him enormously and feel grateful for the beauty and fun he brought to their lives. Predeceased by younger brother, Robert, father, Lester and mother, Mary, Philip is survived by his wife, Marie, and son, Anders, of Charlottesville; as well as his sister, Erica Mikula of Key West, Florida. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Donations in Philip's honor may be made to WTJU Community radio station at wtju.net.

Not sure what to say?

My God, how I miss you

Thinking of Marie and family on this day as I know Philip is still deeply missed by all who knew him.

Philip was not only a talented photographer, but an individual with so many hidden professions and experiences. Many years ago, we would travel to West Virginia to photograph my projects. As we passed time in the 2 plus hour trip (each way), we talked about virtually everything. And I was the one who was learning from him. I am honored to have known him, and will miss him.

I am shocked to hear of this news today, I am so sorry for your loss. I never had the pleasure of meeting Philip, but have always admired his creativity. He & I spoke on several occasions for business and photography, and I know our industry is missing this incredible colleague now.

I knew Philip for a while back around 1999 - 2001. I had the privilege of being his Kodak rep for that time. He was very kind to me and always professional. I really liked Phil and I'll miss him. I am sending my thoughts and prayers to his family.

Philip was an amazing photographer and a beautiful human being. He will surely be missed. RIP dear friend.

I always hoped to, but never met Philip, but came across his fine work on numerous occasions, and was a long-time admirer; he directed his obvious skill and talents toward making beautiful photographs in this challenging field.

I had the distinct honor of working with Philip, what an amazing artist! Very sorry I was unable to work with him more.
