Not sure what to say?

Peter was a fixture running up and down the sidelines or running around the field as a ref throughout my childhood playing soccer in Santa Fe, and through a stint as coach of the SFP 8th grade team in 1985. His "How are you doing young man?" spoken through a big smile was always a pleasure to hear, and his obvious enjoyment at being called "young man" back added a little frosting. Thank you Peter! You will be missed.

Peter was truly a treasure not only to the soccer and SF communities, but he reached out beyond to friends all over. He and Marcie welcomed many as "family," like when they took in 2 teenagers, 1 dog, 2 ferrets, 2 adults, plus 4 cars full of belongings when we had to evacuate during the Cerro Grande fire. My boys still ask whether I've got any new "Peter" jokes. He made a positive difference in many, many lives!

Peter was always helpful, encouraging, and exciting at all our soccer games throughout my time at prep. He will be missed dearly.

I can still vividly remember the button Mr. Cate wore as our Middle School soccer coach: 'No Whining!". Wise and humorous words, and quite effective in quelling our outbursts before they really got started. He was a great coach, a great bookshop owner, and a great guy with a great New England accent that really pricked our ears up and made us listen to his many witty anecdotes and informed opinions. Here's to Mr Cate.

I can still hear Peter's voice booming across the playing field on my first day...'PASS IT TO O'NEILL, HE'S WIDE OPEN'...only to have Will M'Connell clobber me, take the ball away, and give me a dirty look. I was never open again.
Thanks Peter! You'll be missed. Jamie '75

I remember when I was a little kid my best friend and I would go trick-or-treating at Peter's house. He and his wife would always invite us in and give us homemade rice krispie treats or cookies. It is one of my favorite memories. He will be missed.

Peter continued as a avid soccer fan and member of the Northern Soccer Club up until just a few years ago. His knowledge of the game and devotion to it was truly a insiration for all of us who served with him. Ths Santa Fe Prep soccer family will miss him greatly and our sidelines will never be the same.

I remember Mr. Cate once said that he wasnot getting slower the problem was that the new edition were coming a lot faster. He was a great referee instructor and always loking around. He'll be missed specially around prep field.

Mr. Cate was my mentor. He helped me to become the referee I am today. He was never critical. He always had some silly joke to tell. I will forever remember the twinkle in his eye. He will be missed.
