After nearly a lifetime of no contact at all, my wife and I were very fortunate to break bread a few times with my cousin, Phil, and his fiance, Jan, in Boston last summer. Phil hired me out of law school. I am forever grateful for his mentorship and friendship. He will be missed.

Bill and the entire Chanfrau family- Phil, my oldest friend, and I grew up splashing up minnows from the surf onto the shore while Toni, Phil and Bill's mom, would feed us baloney sandwiches and bask in the sun. 70 years later, we still kept in touch. Phil and I played #1 and #2 on a very successful Seabreeze High School golf team. We were friendly rivals and good friends, and although we hadn't seen each other much after college, I still have many warm memories of Phil.

I was saddened to hear the news of Phil's passing today. When I saw his picture, I was instantly reminded of the kindness he showed me nearly two decades ago when I worked at Oceanside Country Club.
