CLEMO, Philip Francis, 85, of Richmond, Va., died Wednesday, May 4, 2011. Born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, U.K., he was predeceased by his parents, George Roger and Angela Mary Clemo; and by his brother, John Arundel Clemo of Insch, Scotland. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary Celeno; his seven children, daughters, Angela of London, U.K., Ruth of Richmond, Va., and Frances of Lake Bluff, Illinois; and sons, Richard and Peter of St. Thomas, U.S. V.I., George of Roanoke, Va. and Henry of Fredericksburg, Va.; as well as his brother, Roger Clemo of Ruislip, U.K.; and sister, Helen Hitchcock of Saxmundham, U.K. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Patrick and Natalie of London, Hannah, Sam and Kate of Richmond, Robert and Cy of Roanoke, Rebecca and Annie of Fredericksburg, and Sarah and Helen of Lake Bluff, Illinois. Mr. Clemo was educated at the Royal Grammar School, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Oxford University and London University. He served in the Royal Navy in World War II in Southeast Asia and Northern Europe, attaining the rank of lieutenant. He worked as a chemical engineer with British Nylon Spinners and Imperial Chemical Industries in the U.K. He and his family moved to the U.S. in 1969, living first in Chester, Va., where he worked with Allied Chemical, and then in Greenville, S.C., where he was a consultant engineer with Fluor. He returned to Richmond, Va., in 2004. Services will be private.
