Not sure what to say?

Julie and family,

I am sorry to hear of Phi's passing. we were classmates at NorthWest Classen and I have been flooded with emails from classmates who had many fond memories of him and high school days. It's unusual to hear a comment about a person such as "I never heard anyone say a critical word of Phil Cline nor did I ever hear Phil say a critical word toward anyone else". That one statement says so much about a person. Please accept mine and all his classmates deepest sympathies.

I was a Zeta Sig with Phil - class of '69 - and very much enjoyed his company and sense of humor during the 2 years we overlapped. He was a gentleman of the first order and a great influence on us impressionable underclassmen. He taught many of us that it was fine to have a good time, but that we had to treat our dates with respect, and, by the way, that we were also there to make the most of your educational experience. I'm sure those qualities carried over to his family and teaching...

Theta Love,

I have many fond memories of Dr. Cline, as he taught the first economics class I had at Washington and Lee and gave me the first "B" I earned at W&L. He was always "witty" in class; provided extensive comments and feedback on tests and papers; and was always very accessible. Needless to say, he was one of my favorite professors I had at W&L.

Heartfelt condolences to the Cline family.
