Swartz Funeral Home - Flint Obituary

SMITH, Philip D. – Of Flint, age 68, died Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Select Specialty Hospital.


Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2019 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 2415 Bagley Street, Flint, Father Thomas Firestone officiating.


Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2019.


In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Angel Flights.


Visitation 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.


A Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Thursday followed by Knights of Columbus ceremony at the funeral home.


Mr. Smith will be at the church from 10 a.m. Friday until the time of the Mass.


Phil was born on October 10, 1950.


Phil was married to “The Love of His Life”, Gloria Jean for 31 years!


Phil was a Marine Corps veteran and an active member of the Knights of Columbus.


Mr. Smith was employed by General Motors for 37 years, before retiring to enjoy his beautiful home in Florida.


Phil loved all sport events, especially when he was coaching many teams for his granddaughter, “Ciara”!


He loved spending time with the grandchildren and getting into mischief with his very “best friend”, Zack!!


Phil was an avid golfer and book reader of anything relating to History.


Phil is survived by his loving wife, Gloria;


son, Alejandro and Brandy;


daughters, Kathy and Lyle, Andrea and David, Carrie and Joe, Casey and Damon;


9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren;


special friends, Steve and Mickie (other “Glamma”) Wade.


Phil has five loving sisters and special brother, Robert; uncle, Dale, his partner in crime.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip, Sr. and Francis Smith; daughters, Melissa and Kristen.

So sorry for your loss, my deepest sympathy. Phil was like family to me and a amazing father, friend, husband, and the best golf partner ever. Jeannie, I have all the love in the world for you and your family and I am here for you at this time of need and no matter what. Phil was a great man with an amazing heart. He will be missed.
