The first time I met the man, he had a .45 pistol sitting on his desk; whether functioning or simply a prop for life's stage, this image never left my mind - here was a man who could have given both Jack Palance and John Wayne a run for their money in an Okinawa bar fight, dust himself off, put on black tie, and attend a dinner dance that same evening. I like the way this sounds, and no one will convince me otherwise when it comes to my memories of Phil.

nobody was better looking than Phil Drake (other than Cary Grant or George Clooney)
Nobody had a dryer sense of humor or razor sharp wit (usually at someone else's expense). I can hear that pause after a comment and his unmistakable chuckle and recognizable glint in his eye....anyone who knew him can remember that mannerism without any doubt. I also must add that whatever the observation he was making usually was spot on, painful but truthful.
