Philip R. Goneau, 68

CLINTON - Philip R. Goneau, 68, died Tuesday, January 3, 2017 in The Reservoir Center, Marlborough, after an illness. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 44 years, Barbara F. (Mascioli) Goneau, who died on February 27, 2016.

He leaves two sisters: Jane Byrne of Brentwood, NH, and Marlene Mele of Marlborough; three brothers: Peter Goneau and his wife, Irene, of Woburn, Paul Goneau and his wife, Karen, of Red Bank, NJ, and Ralph Goneau of Bearsville, NY; many Godchildren, nieces, nephews, and their families. He was predeceased by his brother, William Goneau, sisters Louise Abelli and Audrey Bailey, and in-laws Jennie Chouinard, Theresa Waite, Charles Waite, Norman "Red" Byrne, Robert Mele, Richard Abelli, and Richard Wilhelm.

Phil was born in Boston and raised in Belmont, son of Ralph A. and Louise J. (Humphrey) Goneau. He was a graduate of Concord-Carlisle High School, Class of 1967, and earned his Associate Degree from Fisher Junior College. He had been a resident of Clinton for 45 years.

For many years, he worked at Lund Corp., and Rexnord Corp. as a supervisor, retiring in 2001.

A member of St. John the Guardian of Our Lady Parish, and the former Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Phil was a proud long-time member of the Clinton Lodge of Elks. He loved to fish, and was an avid birdwatcher, gardener, and woodworker, who enjoyed playing cards with friends, bingo with Barbara, having a good laugh, and had an incredible sense of humor.

Phil's funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304 Church St. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Lancaster. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour at the funeral home on Saturday morning, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Activities Fund at The Reservoir, 400 Bolton St., Marlborough, MA 01752.
