Not sure what to say?

Mary and family,
So sorry to hear of your father's death. I have the fondest memories of time spent in your home in NW PDX.
We did not see your dad much as he was busy at the paper. I think he was editor of the city desk then. But he always made me feel completely at home and welcome.
And he raised you and your siblings to be the most interesting people.

I met Phillip in 1980 when my father brought him family photos and documents for his Mulkey's of America book. It was right after Mt. Saint Helens and had blown and the streets were covered in ash. I have referred to his book often throughout my life and hope that his research documents will be donated to a research library.

I was so sorry to hear of Phil's passing. He was such a dear man who brought good cheer wherever he went. i so enjoyed getting to know him when he was covering theater for the Oregonian! Loved reading the write-up he wrote for himself. What a life! So glad you had so many years, but it is never enough. Wishing you and yours peace during this difficult time and wonderful memories of this amazing spirit. love, Kim Kalapus Graham

I met Mr. Hunt while I worked as a secretary at Beaumont Middle School. I worked with his daughter Jenny at that time. He was working on a book about the Beaumont area and would come into the office looking for memorabilia from the school and photos to use in his book. I would help him find old photos and information about the school. I later reconnected with him while he lived at Calaroga where my father and stepmother were living. He was always so friendly and my...

Phil served on our Albertina Kerr study group and wrote the final proposal to the Board of Directors to O.K. the creation of Albertina' Restaurant and shops in the old Nursery Building on S.E.22 and Glisan/Flanders in Portland.1978/79. His loyalty and skills on behalf of the project were invaluable. Those of us who were co-workers on the project will forever be grateful to him. And I might add, very glad that we met him. Phil made Portland a better place. My sympathy goes out to his family....

I first met Phil shortly after joining the Journal in the 1960s He truly was a kind, gentle man well versed in the arts and in story telling, many of which I enjoyed salmon fishing with Phil, I recalled our first trip.We cauught two salmon before I got over the Columbia BAr.Phil was impressed -- for a short while. We didn't catch anything in the ocean. I'll miss him, his kind ways, but cherish his memory and tAles.

Phil was the first night city editor I worked for when I started at the Oregon Journal. He always was patient and kind, while lending insight to the issues and events we were covering. He told me if I had nothing to do, I should read the Oregon Blue Book and local history. I've never gotten better advice. Thank you, Phil. RIP.

Sending love to his family and friends. Phil shared so much with those he met along the journey called life. He will be missed.
