Not sure what to say?

I second those who commented on Phil's kindheartedness and sense of humor. He was very welcoming when I first got to ORNL. Phil always had an open office when one wanted to vent (and solicit advice) about an unsuccessful proposal. But I'd like to highlight especially Phil's attention and devotion to mentoring and seeking recognition for deserving colleagues. I was devastated to hear the sad and unexpected news. Phil was a wonderful colleague. He will be missed. My heartfelt condolences to his family.

It is with a heavy heart that I learn of Phil's passing. In addition to being an amazing scientist, Phil was an incredibly kind and positive man. I worked on my PhD project at ORNL and enjoyed my interactions with Phil and will always appreciate his mentorship during those years.

I do not know how to express my grief. Phil was a trusted friend and inspiring scientist. I will always remember how helpful he was when I started my career. Phil will always be in my memory.
