Philip Kaminsky Obituary

PHILIP J. KAMINSKY MARBLEHEAD, Mass. - Philip J. Kaminsky, 77, of Marblehead, Mass., died at his home on March 19, 2009. Phil was born in Lynn, Mass. and grew up in Claremont, N.H. There he attended Stevens High School and was a state champion baseball pitcher, earning a tryout spot for the Red Sox at Fenway Park. He received a mechanical engineering degree from Worcester Polytech where he continued to play ball, and then enlisted in the Navy, where he served as an officer on the USS Ticonderoga. Following his years in the service, Phil worked in engineering and attended night school at Boston University, earning an MBA and leading to a change of career that spanned the next 30-plus years in financial services. Phil enjoyed many interests and activities, including Red Sox baseball, sailing, skiing and traveling. He leaves his wife of 47 years, Harriet Budnitz Kaminsky of Marblehead; and his three children and six grandchildren, David Kaminsky, his wife Meg Handler, Adam and Amanda of Hinesburg, Vt., Karen Kaminsky Freeman, her husband Barry, Jake and Julia of West Hills, Calif., and Michael Kaminsky, his wife Abby, Matty and Mia of Lexington, Mass. Phil was predeceased by his grandson Ian Kaminsky. Phil also leaves his brother Arnold Kaminsky and his wife Patricia of Methuen, Mass.; his sister Jane Mulsman and her husband Len of Peabody, Mass.; and his sister-inlaw Marilyn Kaminsky of Freeport, N.Y. Phil was predeceased by his brother Bernie. Phil also leaves many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be at the home of David Kaminsky in Hinesburg on Sunday, March 29, from 4 to 8 p.m. Donations may be made in Phil's memory to Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923, or to a charity of choice.
