Not sure what to say?

I remember Phil (and his brother Steve and sister Sharon) from the early years when we gathered with our parents at our paternal grandparent’s house in Aurora, Illinois. As I recall, Phil’s parents lived in Fort Wayne at the time, so it was always a special occasion when we were able to get together. It was always a fun time for us kids. As we grew up and went off to school and began our lives we lost touch until Phil moved to Northern Virginia with Anne. As I recall, we met by chance...

Phil was a people magnet and an organizer. Wanna get a softball team together? Phil did it -- and organized practices and had no interest in controlling the qualify of the player -- anyone who wanted to join had a position.Wanna watch the Super Bowl? Get together at Phil's, where he and Lisa would serve up the chili. Bring some beer to add to the selection.

Andy and Alex, he loved you dearly. Being your father...

I was blessed to have Phil as my husband, and felt fortunate to spend ten years with him. He was a good man who loved his two sons deeply; cared for his friends; and enriched each community he lived in by giving generously of his time to coach youth sports. He is terribly missed by those of us who knew him. I hope he is at peace now, and my love for him continues.

As tough as this loss is for me, to find the strength to deal with it I have only to look at Phil’s life, which was a tribute to integrity, professionalism, courage, humanity, love, and the sheer joy of living. In death, as in...

Phil, you were a fine Christian gentleman and a wonderful father. My condolences to Andy and Alex and to your family. Rest with Our Lord. Your cousin, Don Wampach
