Phil was a people magnet and an organizer. Wanna get a softball team together? Phil did it -- and organized practices and had no interest in controlling the qualify of the player -- anyone who wanted to join had a position.Wanna watch the Super Bowl? Get together at Phil's, where he and Lisa would serve up the chili. Bring some beer to add to the selection.

Phil was the coach of our son's Howard County Youth Program baseball team. My wife and I found him to be fair, honest, energetic and even-handed during his instruction and mentoring of not only our son but all of the youngsters he coached. We continued our friendship with Phil over the years as his career path took him around the country and it is a friendship that we will cherish forever. We extend our deepest sympathy to his family.

I was blessed to have Phil as my husband, and felt fortunate to spend ten years with him. He was a good man who loved his two sons deeply; cared for his friends; and enriched each community he lived in by giving generously of his time to coach youth sports. He is terribly missed by those of us who knew him. I hope he is at peace now, and my love for him continues.

I met Phil when we were both working at Lockheed Martin (then Martin Marietta) in Orlando, FL, during the 1980’s, and we became close friends. Our relationship continued when Phil moved to our facility in Oak Ridge, TN, and later on to Raytheon in Garland, TX.

As tough as this loss is for me, to find the strength to deal with it I have only to look at Phil’s life, which was a tribute to integrity, professionalism, courage, humanity, love, and the sheer joy of living. In death,...
