Phil and Carol were members of The Garden Club of Marion for nearly 40 years. He was especially instrumental in the Blue Star Memorial Dedication at Matter Park, helping orchestrate many aspects of that ceremony, and getting the cooperation of the high school and military components. He was also a vital part of the 2007 Blue Star Memorial Dedication at The National Cemetery in Marion. He and Carol regularly helped at our annual plant sales and other activities. My heart is heavy and sad today when I learned my long-time friend from Marion High School had passed on March 19. 2025. For the past 30 years, Phil has kept me apprised of happenings in Marion. We enjoyed many breakfasts together at 9th Street Café. Phil worked hard for68-uears to get the U. S. Government to find the remains of his idol and older brother, Lt Charles L.
