Philip Mahoney Obituary

Mahoney Philip A. Mahoney Sr., age 74, had his journey peacefully end on January 14, 2015 while surrounded by his family. Phil was born in Chicago to the late Raymond F. and June Mary (Hoffmann) Mahoney in 1940. Phil was a graduate of West High School in '58. He attended the Ohio State University before serving as 1st Lieutenant in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. Phil was a 32nd degree Mason. He was an avid reader who was well known at the Upper Arlington Public library. He loved practical jokes and making his grandchildren laugh. Phil was a buckeye through and through. Phil is preceded in death by his parents and brother Brian (Mae) Mahoney. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Donna Mae (nee Marvin); as well as his children, Erin (Steve) Norris and Andy (Ruth) Mahoney. He leaves his loving and wonderful grandchildren, Grayson Norris, Elijah, Zoey, and Alleluia Mahoney. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Susan (Laird) Lambert and Sheila Mahoney; as well as many nieces, great-nieces, and great-nephews. The family would like to give a special thank you to the Kobacker house where Phil was able to receive the best possible care from amazing caregivers. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to OhioHealth Hospice at OhioHealth Foundation, P.O. Box 600001, Columbus, Ohio 43272. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Chapel B in Union Cemetery, 3349 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, OH 43202. Arrangements by SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL. Don & Pat Brake

My husband, Don, and I first became acquainted with Phil when his son, Andy, dated and later married our daughter, Ruth. He and his wife, Donna, were such a great team! They could put you in stitches with their stories! We enjoyed their friendship and wished we had lived closer so we could have spent more time with them. We are thankful for the wonderful father he was to our son-in-law and his sister, Erin, and, also, special grandfather to our mutual grandchildren, Eli, Zoey, and Alleluia. May God comfort all of you with his wonderful peace during this difficult time.
