I was saddened today to learn of Phil's passing but when I visit this page and see his smiling photograph, it only brings back great memories of how he helped me become a better Democrat and how many, many people he helped though his dedication to public service. Phil was an early mentor of mine. We worked on many campaigns together. He was truly a good and decent person.

I remember Mr. Mastin well. He was good for Hazel Park, and good for Michigan. My condolences to the family.

I went to school with Dawn and remember her father very well. My condolences to the family. A life well lived.

I deeply regret the passing of this fine friend and champion of so many people, May his family rejoice in the fine lessons on life that he gave us all. We trust he will be there to greet us in the next world.

Donna and family, the Dorseys sent us the news of Phil's passing and we are so very sorry. You both were such a big part of our lives at the Pelican and he will be greatly missed. Our prayers are with you.

Phil was my sponsor for my very first job as a Page with the Michigan State Legislature. He was a true gentleman, and a tireless advocate for mental health. Phil was also blessed with a gift for diplomacy, the likes of which I've never seen. His family can rest knowing that he made the state of Michigan a better place to live.

Phil and represented different parties in the legislature but, while he may have disagreed with me on issues, he was always a gentleman. He left Michigan a better place.
