Not sure what to say?

Mr Morsberger changed my life, aged 21, by deciding it would be interesting to see how a fashion illustrator in Manhattan might handle oil paint in Oxford. I accepted the place at Ruskin he so unexpectedly offered, intending to stay only 9 months. That was 47 years ago; I'm still in the UK, still love painting and drawing. He was a kind, generous and supportive mentor and I'm so sorry to hear he has died. Surely he wasn't finished painting...

Dear Wendy, my deep condolences over the loss of your father. He is a dear friend of my father's (James Williams) from Carnegie Tech back in the 50's. My parents chose him as my godfather and named me after him, so much had he influenced their lives. In later years (through my father before he passed) I was able to connect with Philip by mail and phone and so appreciate all of the notes I have from him, and the daily prayers he offered up on my behalf. Even though I never met him he was a...

the Officers and Board of the

extend their condolences.

Philip was my memorable art professor at Ohio's Miami University in the mid-1960s. My mother, raised in Augusta, Georgia, returned to the area in the mid-1980s, to live out her last years at Brandon Wilde's excellent community in Evans, Georgia. On a visit in the late 1980s, I was so surprised when I saw a flier about Philip's upcoming gallery show, posted near the resident mailboxes at Brandon Wilde. I called him, and he told me about work in the Augusta Museum, and he gushed about his...

WONDERFUL MEMORIES TO PHILIPP DURING MY GRADUATE SCHOOL AT CCAC TIME. A GREAT MENTOR AND PROFESSOR.
I BOW DOWN TO YOU DEAR PHILIPP.

The art world lost the most kind and gentle man. He was an American Master and should be celebrated for years and years to come. One my favorite memories is having lunch with Philip, which we would do after almost every class. Philip always had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a sliced apple, and some cheese. A simple man with a heart of gold and talent to spare. He would also open his home to his students and we would hang out at his home studio, talking paint and having snacks. Rest in...

Sending our deepest sympathy from the Mayr-Harting family in Oxford. Philip gave me a lovely drawing of Utnapishtim wearing a pair of headphones and striped trousers when I was a young girl, which he inscribed to me 'for Ursula'. It was my first piece of real art! With love from Ursula Weekes (Mayr-Harting) and from my father Henry Mayr-Harting and late mother Caroline, who died in November 2020.
