So sorry for your loss. So sad that I'm so late in offering my condolences. I served aboard the USNS Navajo (T-ATF 169) in San Diego from July '85 - July '86. Captain Rosten was my CO. He always called me John, never by my enlisted US Navy rank. Captain Rosten would teach me various maritime navigation tips while we were at sea. I always enjoyed speaking with him.
