To Phil's sisters and family, I was deeply saddened to hear of Phil's death. Phil was a friend of nearly 50 years. We met as freshmen at the University of Michigan and lived on the same floor in Couzens Hall. We stayed friends over the years and many of his college buddies would get together every 6-8 weeks or so to share a meal, a few beers and a few stories. Phil was a kind and loving person with a great sense of humor. He is deeply missed and the world is a lesser place without him. May...

My deepest condolences to Phil's sisters and family. Phil was a great college friend. A few of us would get together often to talk and reminisce. I will miss his sense of humor and his stories. His passing leaves a void but I will always have fond memories of him. Rest in peace dear friend.

This is a devastating loss. Phil was a spectacular gentleman. He was a brilliant spectroscopist and engineer. I loved that he never filled the air with extra words -- he was quiet and thoughtful, and absorbed everything. But when he spoke (often with a smile and chuckle), his contribution was definitive and delivered with kindness. I was shocked and saddened to learn of Philip's passing. Earlier in the month I commented to my wife that it was Philip's birthday and then retold the story of my friendship with Philip and his family in 1970 Japan. I was always sure that we would meet up again one day. Condolences to the family from Philip's 1970 Zama, Japan pool friends; Paul Howard, Pat Rotenberry Mitchell, and Cindy Rogers Nelson.

Wonderful man with a huge heart. My kids loved his trains.

the corner will never be the same without you ! may you always rest in peace !
