I valued Mr. Spear's badinage and genuine caring for those of us at EA. He once stopped me in the school hallway to share his excitement for a new pair of running shoes he'd bought. "It's like they do the running FOR me!" he enthused. Mr. Spear suggested a great college for me and I felt he always had my best interests as his student at heart. I'm saddened to know that I now live in a world without Mr. Spear.

My husband and I got to know Phil through monthly book club dinners at the MCC. His love of literature shone through his every word, along with his erudition and sense of humor. Always quick to share a book recommendation or a trenchant opinion! We will miss him at the meeting this week and all subsequent meetings.

He was my favorite teacher and an amazing advisor. He had such an impact on all of us, I still think about him 30 years later. Thanks Mr. Spear for always pushing us, making us laugh, and never judging us. You were a gem❤
