Philip G. Stein

Phil was a colleague and a friend. He definitely planted seeds that will help others make our world a better place. What a legacy that is.

My sympathy to the family. Your loss is great and the loss to the measurement/quality family will be felt for a long time.

A great light has gone out and yet it has not, for Phil Stein's legacy remains. The light that has illuminated this country for many years will continue to illumine this country for many more years to come through his writings and through the emerging Metrology Body of knowledge that he popularized so well and loved so much.

Perhaps, as Nehru said of Gandhi, ‘a thousand years later that light will still be seen in this country, and the world will see it and it will give solace...

Phil was one of our regular contributors to the annual Measurement Science Conference during which time we got to know him and enjoy his personal side. He was an important part of the global measurement community and he will sorely be missed.

I very much enjoyed having known Phil and we all will miss him greatly. He had the unique ability to understand both the practical application and the theory of measurements.

It was a pleasure talking with him, and the subject matter that he could discuss was extensive.

Phil, thank you for all of the contributions that you have made to the advancement of quality and improvement of science.

Mrs. Stein I got to know Phil when I attended the CCT Examinatin Board Meeting a couple of years ago. I would like to let you know in that short time I learned a great deal about the PMEL organization. He would be deeply missed. Phil was a good friend and mentor. We will miss him very much. Our dinners were always full of fun, great insight, and fellowship. I still see and hear him as we shared a desert in Toronto just last May. God Speed!

Phil, became a friend through his help with the Classic Toy Train Display in downtown Peekskill N.Y. His interest and ability to solve electrical control problems will be sorely missed. But most of all his humor and moral support of our volunteer efforts made our participation much more fun. I am thankful that I had the opportunity to know Phil. John Basile

Philip brought a robust appetite for life, his vibrant and inquiring mind, and his love of family to bear on work and friendship. We treasure his visits to our house, discussions of travel and flowers with Carole and him, his wicked sense of humor, and his large embrace of humanity.
