Phillip L. Brunner, age 84 of Stockton, IL passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2018 surrounded by his family at FHN Memorial Hospital. He was born in Rural Stockton/Pleasant Valley Township on April 2, 1934 to the late Lloyd and Bessie (Althof) Brunner. Phillip was a 1951 graduate of Stockton High School. He married Mary Kay Bernhardt on June 1, 1961 in Ottawa, IL. Kay passed away on June 30, 2008.
Phillip was a proud veteran who served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was an active member of the Stockton VFW, Shannon American Legion and NRA. He farmed all his life on the home farm. Phillip served on the Pleasant Valley Township for many years as Supervisor and Road Commissioner. He was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by special friend, Myrna Handel of Mt. Carroll; his son, Mark (Kim) Brunner of Mt. Carroll; his daughter, Jan (Scott) Langfield of Stockton; his grandchildren, Drew (Bre) Trotter who serves in the United States Navy, Jacob Brunner, Kaylynn Brunner, Shawn (Megan) Langfield, Nick (Denise) Langfield who serves in the United States Army, Ashley (Fiance, Ryan Gadow) Langfield and Emily Langfield; his step great grandchildren, Damiano, Amir and Mason; his sister, Mary (long time family friend Dayle) Nagel. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay; his parents, Lloyd and Bessie; his brother, James Sr and his brother-in-law, John Bernhardt.

Dear Brunner Family, Sorry to hear of Phillip's passing. I remember him as a opinionated tough talking guy who was rough around the edges, but had a heart of gold that would help out anyone who needed help. I remember one time when my dad was recovering from surgery, he made sure our hay was made and in the barn in good shape, then went home to make his hay and it got rained on.
