Drake, Phillip A., 72. Heaven is a better place today because it has accepted a most wonderful, highly principled, moral man. A man of great compassion and wit. He is probably telling "shaggy dog stories" to anyone who will listen. A resident of Ft. Lauderdale since 1940, Phil graduated in 1953...

Not sure what to say?

I was so sad to read that Mr. Drake had passed. I didn't know about the gathering until after it was over, otherwise my mom and I would have come. I attended Lauderdale High at the same time as David, and always thought his father was such a fun, bright person. He will certainly be missed. And while he may have started off a Tarheel, we Gators are claiming him for our own.

Like Carol, I also knew Phil from the days we started with Mrs. Sutton at East Side. Phil was a friendly, gentle person but a fierce competitor. I will always remember the easy manner and friendly smile. Our thoughts are with you Jean, and our prayer is that our loving heavenly Father comforts and gives you strength in your time of grief. Jean, we love you as we did Phil.

Jean, Phil was so happy as we talked for hours about life in general at the annual Phi Delt reunion in St.Augustine. I'm so sorry for your loss as he was one of the finest men I've ever known.

Hello Jean and we are including you in our prayers. It will be the memories that will support you through the coming years and they will be fond ones. Not only the school years but those following when we would enter your store on Las Olas and be greeted by both of your smiling faces. Those wonderful years will be forever in our memories.

Jean and family, I will remember Phil as a genuinely nice guy. The Phi Delts will miss him.

Jean and Family,
How truly saddened I am to hear the news of Phil, one of the finest men I've ever known. As Helen Keller so wisely noted: "What we once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose, for all that we love deeply becomes a part of us." May your family memories live in your heart always.
With deepest sympathy,

Dear Jean and family. We were shocked to learn of Phil's death. What a great guy. We are better for having known him. You remains in our Prayers. Bob & Connie Skidmre, Inclne Village, Nv.

Phil was a good friend, and we go back to the first grade at East Side Elem. I remember in the 6th grade when we were headed on to Lauderdale High, he won the high jump contest, having not been that athletic prior to then. Wow, did that change rapidly! He was a great swimmer, wonderful person and a good personal friend. We will all miss him. Jean, our hearts and prayers are with you.

Dear Jean & Family, I am very sorry to hear about Phil. I know this is a very hard time for you and I can empathize with your sorrow. I am your neighbor from a very long time ago, (SE 4 St) and my parents and I knew Phil and family from Las Olas Center 1940's. Jo Ann Fuller Monaghan (John Jr. deceased1991))
