Not sure what to say?

Col Laurie was my Commanding officer of the 3CMBTCG at Tinker Air Force base in the 80´s. I was a young airman at the time but I do remember him. He always called us men. "Morning Men". He simply commanded respect. I feared and respected him at the same time which is a sign of a great leader. In fact I think he painted in Russian on our roof something because there was a Russian satellite that watched our site. Classic. My condolences to the whole family. He was a great man.

Was recalling a fiery and passionate soul that was my Commander at the 1978 Communications Group at Howard AB, Panama this morning. Rest in Peace Sir Phillip and know You made a difference!

TSgt Thomas Keplar, USAF (ret)

Col. Lurie was my commander when I had just come from a very hard tough remote tour in Turkey Feb 1985. I had been given X2 overall 6 APR's and had very little confidence left. Col Lurie and MSgt Charles T. Smiley gave me a chance and I took it. Before long was a teach chief with a team and 2 TSC-62 Tech Control vans under my leadership to maintain them. I have never forgotten Col Lurie. rip Sir. Thomas E. Keplar, Jr., TSgt (E-6), USAF (ret) (1978 - 1994)

The best commander I ever served under. R.I.P.

I was a participating member of the 3rd CCG (Herd) from 1985-1987 under Colonel Lurie's command. He was really tough on us, but I admired him for this style of leadership. Thinking back, if I had not changed my clearance status in September 1984 I would not have been able to experience a CCG unit such as the Herd nor would I ever been able to be acquainted with Colonel Lurie. Thank you to his family for allowing me this experience. Blessings and prayers to each one of you.

I was stationed at the 3rd from 78-81. He was the Maint chief while there and I ran into some issues while on TDY and he had to go to bat for me, and pointed me in the right direction. If it wasn't for him and his guidence I would not have been able made the Air Force a career and spent 20 yrs serving. May Col Lurie rest in peace.

One of the best officers I've ever run across. He taught me that respect is earned not simply given. Being in multiple combat theaters I often thought of him while giving direct support to young marines.. I've often heard people say that they would have followed him in combat . I can honestly say I would!! Hopefully the next time I'm in your office it will be to eat donuts and drink coffee. Not for flipping your 2nd Lt over in the porta potty!! Lol Sempre Phi Sir!!

I had the distinct pleasure of serving as Col. Lurie's Maintenance Superintendent while we were stationed at Howard AFB, Rep. of Panama, He and I developed a close relationship. He was the best commander I ever had, and was a good friend to me and my family. I personally share your sorrow at his passing. God bless and keep you.

I was Commander of the 2nd Mob at Patrick AFB in 1980-1981.Got to know Phil during that time and at Tactical Communications Area later on. Phil had that great ability to understand and take care of the troops. He was one of the best and will be missed by all who knew him. God bless Phil and his entire family.
