A Call Every Morning
Years ago, Phil Miller walked two hours from his home in Upper Manhattan across the 181st Street bridge to pick up his date in the Bronx because he could not afford the train and the cost of the date, too. He worked delivering newspapers so he would have enough money to take her to Greenwich Village, a big deal at the time.

After 33 years of marriage, Mr. Miller's devotion to his wife, Arlene, never wavered. Nor did his devotion to hard work, or long commutes. He was proud of being one of the youngest members of the Casualty Actuarial Society and of his position at Aon. In the summers, when the Millers left their home in Staten Island for their vacation home in the Poconos, Mr. Miller, 53, got up at 4 a.m. to take a bus to his office at the World Trade Center.

And each morning he would call his wife after he got to work, just to check in. On Sept. 11, he called from his office in the south tower. He told her he had seen the crash and was leaving; he got as far as the 78th floor.

Had he lived, the couple would have retired in four years to Orlando, Fla., near his daughter, son-in-law and two granddaughters. Now Arlene Miller is moving south sooner than expected. "My windows face the World Trade Center; I can't stay here," she said. "He wouldn't have wanted it."

Not sure what to say?

I would like to thank you all for the kind words and sentiments about my father. He was a very special man with a strong work ethic and a great sense of humor even during the toughest of times. It is those qualities that have guided me throughout my life. He loved being a grandfather and was robbed of that privilege too soon. I think of him when I am eating deli, watching a Yankee game or when golf plays on TV. If he were alive today, he would be spending the winter in his Florida home...

I will never forget you or your funny sense of humor. You were a kind, loving and compassionate person. Thank you for allowing me to live in your house so that I could finish the school year. You always treated me like a daughter. You will forever be in my heart and in my thoughts and prayers. I see you still in the faces of your children and grandchildren. You were definitely taken way too soon. RIP

I received Phil's card on a motorcycle ride back in 2011 today is September 11th 2019 I still have that card and Phil's going golfing with me today. God bless to his family and friends

In Memory
With Honor & Respect.

To the family of Phillip D. Miller,
I rode in a 911 motorcycle ride on August 18-21, 2011 I received a card with a name on it, that name was Phillip D. Miller. I rode from Shanksville to Washington then to Ground zero with that card attached to my windshield, it was an honor to ride in his memory and will ride every Sept. 11 forward with that card attached.
God bless,
Joe Polcetti

Thinking of you today on this eighth anniversary. I worked with Phil at ISO and he was such a gentle soul. You will never be forgotten.

In memory....

As I stitched your name on the memorial that I am doing for all of the victims, I prayed for you and your family. Please know that your death was not in vain. We will always remember. God Bless.
