Phylis Jean Jones Petrosky of New Eagle went to be with the Lord on September 15, 2024.
Phylis was a resident of John Lignelli Manor in New Eagle since 2006. Phylis was born May 25, 1937 in Miracle Run, West Virginia. In 1950, the Jones family relocated to Monessen, Pennsylvania, where she graduated from Monessen High School in 1955.
Phylis began her working career by cooking and cleaning at age 13. Upon graduating she secured a job at J.C. Penney in Monessen where she was employed for nine years. She started her family when she was 27 years old and became a stay-at-home mom. Years later, she returned to the workforce as a patient care tech at Lawson’s Nursing Home, Concerned Care, and Helping Hands. Phylis had an extreme love for the elderly and children. She began babysitting for families after leaving the patient care field. Phylis was a Foster Grandparent at Ringgold Elementary School North for five years.
Phylis enjoyed spending time with her friends at John Lignelli Manor, the Monongahela Senior Center, and Journey by Grace Church. She loved baking, cooking and sharing meals.
Phylis was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, George Petrosky; her parents Harold Maylon Jones and Nellie Marie Stewart Jones; sister, Bernice Lowe; and step-great grandson, Elijah Mersburgh.
She was the proud mom to Mark Petrosky (Shirley) of Bentleyville, Jeff Petrosky (Kerry) of South Park, Melissa Petrosky of Bethel Park, Melinda (Petrosky) Kalinowski (Rick) of Finleyville, and stepdaughter Terri Tada. Phylis' grandchildren include Alexis Petrosky of Raleigh, North Carolina, Abbie Petrosky of West Palm Beach, Florida, Zachary and Lacey Kalinowski of Finleyville, and bonus granddaughter Kristy Faccenda of Bethel Park; step-grandchildren, Laura Mersburgh (Isaac), Kawika Oliver, and Mahealani Miles; step-great grandchildren, Isaac and Isaiah Mersburgh. Phylis' siblings include Jesse Jones (Barb) and Harold Jones, both of Charleroi. She was also the proud aunt of numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received Tuesday, September 17, 2024 from 2-8 PM in the Frye Funeral Home, 427 W Main Street, Monongahela. My deepest sympathy to your family. Phyllis made a huge impact on both my life and the life of my daughter, Leslie, during our first years at Monongahela Free Methodist. What a kind and loving spirit. We were both blessed by the friendship and love she offered to us. Thanks for sharing her life with us!

I am so sorry to hear of Phylis’ passing. I enjoyed talking with her when my grandparents lived in Lignelli Manor. She wore her Ringgold colors to support Lacey. You have my deepest sympathy.

My heartfelt sympathy to the family of Phyliss.
I moved into Lignelli last year. She was one of the first people I met and became a fast friend. She was so sweet and caring and loved her family.
I will miss our talks and friendship.
God bless you all and may she rest in peace.
