Not sure what to say?

Twenty-six years ago, I was an adult student in Professor Drake's ENG 101 course. I was a computer science major, but when asked which class had the most impact, I always tell the story of Professor Drake. This woman was my saving grace in so many ways. She was hard in the most perfect way. I went through high school taking honor courses, but under Professor's Drake teaching, I realized that I didn't know as much as I thought I did. Man, she had me searching my paper all through the night...

To hear of the passing of Phyllis brings me such sadness. She was not only a great teacher, a great example of triumph over adversity, a joyful full- of- life person; but a mentor for students and friends as well. She was a delight. Her friendship extended beyond teaching together into a joyful sharing of family occasions, trips, parties and school events. When I could not chaperone a trip to Europe that I had planned, the only person I thought of to ask to lead it was Phyllis. They had a...

Phyllis was simply larger than life. I was always jealous because I never had her as a teacher. I was lucky enough to spend time with her on a trip when I was a senior. She taught much more than classroom subjects. She taught me independence, and confidence as she encouraged me to navigate our over seas trip. Looking back, she had a watchful eye on us; yet, she helped me learn to do things on my own. She would say, " what would you do if I were not here to help you." I learned more on that...

So sad to hear about Phyllis passing away. I worked with her at Spartanburg Community College. She and I had worked on a specific project together, and I am thankful for that opportunity to get acquainted with her.

All my love to the family. So many wonderful memories to share. God´ speed dear lady.

I just heard the news. Phyllis, you are somewhere enjoying freedom from pain and probably composing memos to your loved ones. I can picture you passing rubrics out to all the angels, laughing and joking with a piece of chalk in your hand. You were an unforgettable woman-a friend, a mentor, a lover of life. God be with you and yours now.

So sorry for your loss. Phyllis will be greatly missed. Loved her!

Phyllis was sincerely dedicated in her position as head of the English Department at Spartanburg Community College. From her conversations about her daughters and her grandchildren, it was clear that her dedication to her family was the most important aspect of her life. My sympathy to Phyllis´ family.

PHYLLIS WAS A GOOD AND MEMORABLE FRIEND. SHE WILL BE MISSED BY THOSE WHO KNEW AND LOVED HER. I HOPE THAT SHE KNEW HOW WELL LIKED AND LOVED SHE WAS.
