Bradley's Funeral Home & Crematory - Marion Obituary

Chilhowie, VA

Phyllis Hatfield, 75, of Chilhowie, VA, formerly of Princeton, WV, passed away April 20, 2022, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA. “ And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you” John 16:22.

Phyllis was born on June 9, 1946, in Cub Creek, WV to the late Alvis and Polly Kennedy.  In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Roy; brothers, Benny Kennedy and Stewart Kennedy; sister, Thelma Cantrell as well as a baby sister; nephews, Truman and Leon Roberts; and niece, Donna Shrader.

Phyllis was the baby of the family and grew up with nieces and nephews who were more like brothers and sisters. She graduated from Baileysville High School and spent the next few years living in Zion, Illinois.  She was a homemaker and caregiver.  Phyllis worked several years managing the concessions for the Princeton Rays and truly loved her time there and the friends she made.  She loved to cook and some of her happiest times were spent with her family enjoying holiday meals together.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Danielle Keene, and husband Jeff of Chilhowie, VA;  grandchildren, who were the light of her life: Gabby, Braven, and Kaylee: nieces: Jan Jones of Thomasville, NC, Bonnie Cline and Calvin of Oceana, WV and Belinda Kennedy Carroll and Lynn of Zanesville, OH.  She also leaves behind those who she had the honor of being called “Granny” Cordell Boyles, Tyler Hornsby, Aaron Bowman and Jacob Bowman, and numerous others who she referred to as her kids.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 pm, on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Bradley’s Funeral Chapel in Chilhowie with Pastor George Jessee officiating.  The family will receive visitors from 1:00-3:00 pm.  In honoring her wishes, Phyllis will be cremated and her ashes scattered at a later date. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family at www.bradleysfh.com. Bradley’s Funeral Chapel, Chilhowie is serving the family of Mrs. Hatfield.
