Schrader Funeral Home and Crematory - Ballwin Obituary

Macalady, Phyllis Anne (née Parmley), asleep in Jesus, Wednesday, July 30, 2025.

Beloved wife of the late Arthur Robert Macalady, Sr.; dearest mother of Terri Lynn (Robert) Gillespie, A. Robert Macalady, Jr., Matthew G. Macalady, Phyllis Lucy Macalady-Wilson and the late Alicia Kathryn Macalady; dear grandmother of Erin DeClue, Rebekah (Shemuel) Israel, Cori Lynn Macalady, Nicki (Israel) Perez, Jessica (Michael) Altman, Jordan Jafar, Joshua (fiancée Danielle Wolff) Jafar and Kristen Kirnbauer; great-grandmother of Brandon, Ryan, Tyler, Emma, Darrell, Noah, Jack and Eli; great-great-grandmother of Colson DeClue; loving daughter of the late Gale and Nancy Parmley; sister of the late Richard, Charlene, Roger and Katie; a dear aunt, great-aunt, cousin and friend of many.

Phyllis’s legacy began with a childhood desire to become a doctor, but that dream changed when she met the love of her life, Arthur. She redirected her childhood dream with a passion for faith, family, and service. From church youth leader to self-taught Bible scholar to mentor to outspoken spokesperson working with the U.S. surgeon general to place warning labels on smokeless tobacco products to an avid supporter of Iron County’s tourism board, her energy was boundless.

As her health declined, she focused even more on her legacy with her family. Advising, sharing, taking joy in the wonders of each child, grandchild, and those she lovingly “adopted” into the family. Despite the limitations of her body, she could still smile, say an “I love you”, and pat a shoulder.

Phyllis sowed into many fields which has seen a harvest of changed lives.

Not sure what to say?

I love you Grandma. It's hard knowing you're gone, but I felt your love for me and that will stay with me forever. Thank you! I'll miss you!

I had the opportunity to be in the presence of a beautiful person. I wish Phyllis Macalady all the best as she starts on her new journey. Rest in peace.

She was a great lady. I will miss her smile and her wisdom, but most of all her hugs.

I wish we could be there Aunt Phyllis. I’m so glad I got to see you right after the eclipse and that you got to meet Jackson and Charlotte. Love you.

Mrs. Macalady you were mom to so many of us. My Mom always spoke about you and said “She’s always such a lady”. You always stopped by my workplace to say hello. What an endearing woman you were. We love you “mom.”

My Aunt Phyllis was always there for me in my darkest days and happiest moments. Always encouraging, advising and loving me. She would give me strength when I had none. She guided me in my faith and gave me my cherished bible some 40 years ago.
We could talk for hours and hours about everything and nothing. You were always an angel to me...you now have your wings. I love you.

To the family- thank you for the opportunity to know your beautiful momma. I loved every conversation and every hug. I loved watching her wear her cute little hats and coming up and talking with me about her family. She loved all of you completely. My life was blessed with her in it. I pray that she is dancing in the fields of heaven with your handsome daddy. Fly high my little beautiful lady ♥.

Phyllis was a gem of a friend and will be dearly missed.

Rest in peace
